The Cup Run: FA Cup Fourth Round - Will Grigg is on Fire

Oh hello there. Welcome back to The Cup Run! this week we'll be looking at one of my favourite competitions, The FA Cup! There's nothing quite like the beauty of the Cup. The crackle of electricity in the air when a top flight team has to travel to a lower league ground. The buzz of anticipation of a replay at a Premier League stadium. The possibility of a day out at Wembley. And of course, the absolute magic of a giant killing. It's an amazing competition, and still holds a special place in the heart of all football fans. So with only seven top flight teams guaranteeing themselves a place in the fifth round, and some juicy replays still to be had involving Premier League teams, who impressed us enough to be our Keep Calm and Carry On's? Who needed to be better and so has ended up with our Wooden Spoon? Well read on! Keep Calm and Carry On: Wigan Athletic Do you want a weird thought? This time 12 years ago Wigan were a ne...

The Cup Run: League Cup Semi-Finals - We need to talk about Chelsea......

Hello there! Welcome to The Cup Run, a new regular football article focusing on The League Cup (I refuse to call it it's name for sponsorship reasons, but it rhymes with Haribo and that's partly why), The FA Cup, The Champions League and The Europa League. Essentially just imagine The 38 but without PES or Jayson thrashing me on a regular basis. Much like The 38 we'll have a Keep Calm and Carry On (AKA the team of the round) and a Wooden Spoon (the worst performing team of the round). So without further ado lets have a look at the League Cup Semi-Finals! Keep Calm and Carry On: Manchester City So this actually was a tough choice, mainly because although Bristol City lost both legs they took it to Manchester City, and didn't ever look like they were truly out of the tie in either leg until De Bruyne's winner in the second leg, and lets be honest who doesn't like an underdog? Then there was Arsenal, but to be honest they only really boss...

The 38: Blog Edition

So...... you might have noticed we're not playing PES (which means luckily I am keeping some form of football game dignity). You might also have noticed it is just I, the perennial Wooden Spoon of The 38, Jake here without my erstwhile partner in crime Jayson (AKA The Comeback Kid after our half season review). Alas Jayson has important actor stuff to do, but lucky for you lot I am A) not an actor and B) have no social life, so with out further ado here is The 38: Blog Edition! Keep Calm And Carry On: West Ham United If at the start of the season you had told me West Ham would sack Slaven Bilic with West Ham in the relegation zone, and then replace him with David Moyes who had got Sunderland relegated last season at the bottom of the table I would have thought that you were either A) insane or B) on a really weird football related trip. Well if you did say that the good new is you're neither of the above. to be fair when Moyes was announced as the new West Ham manager I b...

Nigel Farage and The Conundrum of a Second Brexit Referendum

So as I was casually scrolling through my newsfeed on my break the other day I was enjoying the memes and banter that social media gives us on a regular basis. But then I found myself feverishly heading back up to find an article The Independent had posted, because honestly I couldn't believe my eyes. Surely in my hasty glance at the headline I had misread it. I mean I just had to have imagined it...... After much frantic searching I found what I was looking for. "Nigel Farage says 'maybe' there should be second referendum on leaving the EU". Ok. My curiosity was piqued. I couldn't help but have a look. In an appearance on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff Nige said “What is for certain is that the Clegg's, the Blair's, the Adonis's will never, ever-ever give up. They will go on whinging and whining and moaning all the way through this process. So maybe – just maybe – I’m reaching the point of thinking that we should have a second referendum on E...
